Heart Failure Position Statement

Th Heart Failure Patient Foundation developed a position statement regarding research that was written by healthcare providers, researchers, patients and caregivers. The  position of the HF Patient Foundation is:

  1. Patients with HF are recommended to be actively engaged in research at all levels.
     
  2. Patients with HF are recommended to have access to unbiased research findings.
     
  3. Patients with HF, their families, caregivers, and community are recommended to be invited to discuss perceived needs and collaborate in the development of research interventions, protocols, and outcome measures.
     
  4. HF researchers are recommended to design studies that are inclusive and represent the diverse patient community.
     
  5. HF researchers are recommended to collaborate and incorporate patients throughout the research process.
     
  6. HF healthcare clinicians are recommended to present opportunities to patients to participate in research.
     
  7. HF healthcare clinicians are recommended to educate patients on research results and change therapy/plan of care based on new science.
     
  8. All research funding agents are recommended to assess strategies in proposed studies to ensure inclusion of patients in the research process and  representation of minoritized and underserved populations.
